Rachel Leonard
Assistant Engineer

While at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Rachel worked on the production team at the Musical Arts Center running lights and sound for opera, jazz, and orchestra events and spent an internship at Interlace Audio in Portland, Oregon, with engineer Kris Crummett. After a stint in Chicago, where she curated pro audio–related content for YouTube videos at Reverb and also ran live sound as the house engineer at Penny Road Pub, she joined the team at Sweetwater Studios. She has been our assistant engineer on sessions for Anthrax, Al Di Meola, Oz Noy, Jonatha Brooke, Bootsy Collins, Chris Lord-Alge, Carl Verheyen, Albert Lee, and Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley.

Rachel’s role is critical in keeping sessions moving smoothly and she has a knack for creating an environment that’s upbeat and conducive to creativity. And since she has worked on so many genres of music — including classical, jazz, choir, metal, singer/songwriter, rock, funk, and others — she’s ready for anything that walks into the studio. She also does some drum editing and vocal tuning to get songs feeling and sounding just right.

Rachel’s all-time favorite album would have to be Riot! by Paramore, because it was the first album she bought on her own. She says that even over a decade after its release, the huge drums and guitars, powerhouse vocals, and incredible harmonies on that album never get old, and the way it was produced still inspires her to this day.
