Recording Workshop with Shawn Dealey
Featuring Bones Owens and Aaron Gillespie

February 9–10 | 10AM–5PM | $695

Join Sweetwater Studios’ Shawn Dealey for a two-day intensive recording workshop with Americana/blues-rock guitarist Bones Owens and renowned drummer/songwriter Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, Paramore) as we take a song from start to finish in Studio A. Shawn will take you through the process of everything from setting up the studio for recording to tracking and overdubbing to editing and mixing. You’ll learn to comp, edit, mix, apply EQ and effects, and make final decisions to perfect your mix. Your experience in this workshop will help you draw out the best in the musicians’ projects you record in your own studio.

This workshop is based around the creative recording process. We use Avid Pro Tools, but all the techniques can be used in a variety of different workflows. We recommend you have a basic knowledge of recording and some experience working in a DAW to attend this class.

Tickets are extremely limited for this in-person workshop!

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR — SHAWN DEALEY

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR
SHAWN DEALEY

Equally comfortable mixing in an arena or a recording studio, Shawn Dealey has spent the last 20 years developing his craft as an in-demand recording engineer, mixer, and producer. Working with artists such as Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Jared James Nichols, KEN mode, Bootsy Collins, Propagandhi, the Weakerthans, and countless others, Shawn’s passionate approach to the art of recording, along with his hunger for new techniques, keep him at the top of his game and can help you excel at yours.

MEET Bones Owens

From blues-rock swag to Americana vulnerability, Missouri-born songwriter and guitarist Bones Owens can bring authentic delivery to big rock or intimate acoustic performances. A product of his country roots and ’90s alternative-rock leanings, Owens cut his teeth crafting songs in middle school garage bands in rural Missouri. This duality remains artfully illustrated in a persistent refusal to be held to a single lane. Owens’s chameleon-like approach has not only shaped his music but has also paved the way for diverse collaborations, spanning from artists such as Yelawolf, Mikky Ekko, and Jelly Roll to appearing on tours with KALEO, Koe Wetzel, and Whiskey Myers.

Meet Aaron Gillespie

Producer and composer Aaron Gillespie is known for his work as the drummer and clean vocalist for the metalcore band Underoath and as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in the alternative-rock band, the Almost. A Florida native currently residing in Nashville, Aaron keeps a busy schedule on the road and continues to produce and write for a variety of projects.
