TWO-DAY RECORDING WORKSHOP
featuring Big Big Train

March 15-16 | 10AM–5PM | $995

Join Sweetwater Studios’ Shawn Dealey for a two-day, intensive recording workshop with UK-based prog-rock group Big Big Train as we take a song from start to finish Studio A. Over two days in the studio, Shawn will take you through the process of everything from setting up the studio for recording to tracking and overdubbing all the way through editing and mixing. You’ll learn to comp, edit, mix, apply EQ and effects, and make final decisions to perfect your mix. Your experience in this workshop will help you draw out the best in the musicians’ projects you record in your own studio.

This workshop is based around the creative recording process. We use Avid Pro Tools, but all the techniques can be used in a variety of different workflows. We recommend you have a basic knowledge of recording and some experience working in a DAW to attend this class.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR – SHAWN DEALEY

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR
SHAWN DEALEY

Equally comfortable mixing in an arena or a recording studio, Shawn Dealey has spent the last 20 years developing his craft as an in-demand recording engineer, mixer, and producer. Working with artists such as Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Jared James Nichols, KEN mode, Bootsy Collins, Propagandhi, The Weakerthans, and countless others, Shawn’s passionate approach to the art of recording, along with his hunger for new techniques, specifically Dolby Atmos mixing, keeps him at the top of his game and can help you excel at yours.

MEET Big Big Train

Big Big Train was originally formed by songwriter Gregory Spawton on the south coast of England in the early 1990s. The band’s sixth album, 2009’s The Underfall Yard, featured vocalist David Longdon for the first time and brought Big Big Train considerable critical acclaim and represented their belated commercial breakthrough. Big Big Train’s steady upwards trajectory continued with the success of the albums English Electric Parts 1 & 2, Folklore, Grimspound, The Second Brightest Star, Grand Tour, Common Ground and Welcome to the Planet. In late 2021, the band suffered the sudden tragic death of David Longdon, and coupled with an enforced break due to COVID, Big Big Train took time to regroup. Big Big Train successfully returned to the stage in autumn 2022 with new singer Alberto Bravin (formerly of Italian legends PFM) and performed both in the UK and Europe.

Alongside Spawton and Bravin, the band has an impressive list of musicians, including drummer Nick D’Virgilio and guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjöblom, whose combined experience includes playing with bands such as Genesis, PFM, Tears for Fears, Spock’s Beard, and Beardfish, among others.
