Dave boasts 40+ years of experience playing electric and acoustic bass, both live and in the recording studio, and more than 35 years of producing and engineering recording projects. He was the owner of Nashville’s Java Jive Studio for 25 years and has performed with, recorded, or otherwise worked with artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Charlie McCoy, Rob Ickes, Billy Ray Cyrus, Porter Wagoner, Roy Clark, Lulu Roman, the Hinson Brothers, Pink Droyd, the Sweetwater All Stars, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jo Dee Messina, the Drifters, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa, David Grier, John Jorgensen, Billy Cobham, Marcus Scott, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Bootsy Collins, Robbie Fulks, and many more!
As a skilled session bassist and as one of Sweetwater’s foremost producers and engineers, his familiarity with many styles of music helps him work easily and effectively with artists in all genres. One of his many strengths resides in communicating with artists and clients, about both the technical side and the artistic side of their projects, and he’s a jack-of-all-trades, taking on whatever role is needed for a specific project. When an artist has a clear vision of what they want their project to be, and when our team and facilities can help them to not only achieve but improve upon that vision, Dave is in his element. “All of us are here to help the artists achieve a goal; when we can do that, it’s a good day.”
His go-to playlist varies — not only day to day, but hour by hour. Lately, though, it’s been Spike Jones and His City Slickers, Mavis Staples, some Bettye LaVette, a little Artie Shaw, and the original cast recordings of Spamalot, Book of Mormon, and Ain’t Misbehavin’. His current favorites might be a totally different mix — ask him what he’s listening to now!
