You’ll cover the full live performance recording lifecycle — from stage setup and front-of-house (FOH) mixing to studio editing and final mixdown. You’ll observe real setups, hear A/B comparisons, and walk through the decision-making process that working engineers use every day. Gain practical, real-world skills to tackle your projects with confidence.

Day 1 — Friday, May 29, 11AM–5PM

Live Sound Fundamentals & Capture

Morning Session: Miking & Setup

  • Pre-Production Documentation and Show File Design
  • Microphone selection for drums, guitars, vocals, and bass
  • Placement techniques for bleed control and tone shaping
  • Stage layout considerations
  • Ringing out wedges

Midday: Soundcheck & Problem Solving

  • Gain structure & signal flow
  • EQ strategies for live environments
  • Managing stage volume
  • Communication with performers
  • Real-time troubleshooting
  • Monitor vs FOH considerations

Afternoon: Live Mix + Multitrack Capture

  • Building a live mix from scratch
  • Balancing clarity vs energy
  • Using compression and effects in live environments
  • Capturing multitrack audio for post-production
  • Brief Q&A with attendees

 

Day 2: Saturday, May 30, 10AM–2PM

Editing & Mixing a Live Recording

  • Managing crowd/room mics
